JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, gave his first big
speech as a vice presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention. He
talked a lot about his mom, Bev Vance, who got a big round of applause from the
crowd.
JD has written a book about his own tough childhood and has
been open about how his mom struggled with addiction. In his speech, he talked
about how his mom fought hard to overcome her struggles and how proud he is of
her.
He said, "I'm so happy to say that my mom is here tonight, and she's been clean and sober for 10 years! I love you, Mom!" The audience erupted in cheers and applause. His mom stood up and smiled, looking a little emotional and holding a tissue to her eyes. The crowd kept cheering for a long time and even started chanting "JD's mom!"

JD Vance mentioned that his mom, Beverly, is about to reach
10 years of sobriety. He joked that they could celebrate this milestone at the
White House if President Trump allows it.
During his speech, JD Vance sat next to Speaker of the House
Mike Johnson and spoke with him often. He also shook hands with former
President Donald Trump, who was sitting with JD's wife, Usha.
JD criticized the cheap products made in China and the
impact of foreign labor on the US. He also talked about how these issues will
affect future generations.
JD represents Ohio and grew up in Appalachia, an area
heavily affected by addiction problems. In 2021, overdose rates in Appalachia
were 72% higher than in other parts of the country for people between 25 and 54
years old.
JD shared a heartfelt story about his grandmother, who was a
strong influence in his life despite her own struggles.

JD Vance's grandmother was a strong-willed woman who lived
by her Christian faith and was not afraid to speak her mind. She kept a close
eye on JD and made sure he was not hanging out with the wrong crowd.
JD's book is important because it helps people understand how Donald Trump can connect with working-class Americans who are struggling. The main message is that people can improve their own lives through hard work and determination.
JD's wife, Usha Vance, was also at the Republican National Convention and introduced him. She met JD at Yale University after he graduated from Ohio State. Usha is a lawyer and has worked for some very important judges, including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
