Former President Donald Trump is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a high-profile Trump meeting Zelensky at the White House and has stirred fresh debate with his latest comments on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking on Sunday, Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could end the war with Russia "almost immediately" if he wanted to.
These remarks came just one day before Trump is set to host Zelensky and seven top European leaders at the White House in Washington, D.C. The high-profile meeting will focus on pressing global security issues, including Ukraine’s defense, NATO’s role, and Europe’s united response to Russian aggression.
Trump, writing on his social media platform Truth Social, said:
“President Zelensky can end the war almost immediately, if he wants to. Remember how it started—Crimea was taken under Obama without a shot being fired, and Ukraine was told no NATO.”
The White House summit 2025 will bring together seven European leaders, Zelensky, and Trump to discuss the conflict, including NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. The meeting touches on critical issues including the NATO and Ukraine conflict, and the future of European security.
Ahead of the White House talks, Zelensky met with von der Leyen in Brussels to discuss Ukraine’s long-term military needs, EU membership ambitions, and ways to strengthen Western unity against Moscow.

Trump expressed excitement about hosting so many leaders together, calling it a “great honor.” He also pushed back at critics in the media, saying they unfairly portrayed his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin as a diplomatic failure.
Just last week in Anchorage, After his recent Putin Trump peace deal talks, Trump urged Ukrainian leadership to consider a new approach and suggested Kyiv should consider the deal given Russia’s military power, both Zelensky and European leaders have repeatedly rejected any plan that involves ceding Ukrainian land.
As the Washington summit begins, the world is watching closely to see whether any breakthrough is possible—or whether divisions between Trump’s diplomatic style and Europe’s harder stance on Russia will deepen. (Source - Fox News)
