Russian politicians are hailing the recent Alaska summit between President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump as a major victory for Moscow. The meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, didn’t produce any deal to end the war in Ukraine, but Russia’s leaders say it confirms their message of seeking peace on their terms. #AlaskaSummit #RussiaVictory #PutinTrumpTalks

Andrei Klishas, a top lawmaker from Putin’s ruling party, called the summit proof that Russia wants a “long-term and fair peace.” He framed it as a setback for Ukraine and its European backers who have demanded an unconditional ceasefire. Klishas said Russia’s campaign, called the Special Military Operation (SMO), will succeed either through diplomacy or by military force.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev highlighted how the talks happened without any “preconditions” — something Moscow has insisted on from the start. Russia’s state media showcased the grand welcome Putin received in Alaska, including a rare red carpet arrival and a personal greeting from Trump, emphasizing Putin's return to the global stage despite Western isolation.

Konstantin Kosachyov, a senior Russian parliament member, praised both leaders for their personal efforts in making the meeting a success, even though no concrete outcomes were shared publicly.

However, the mood wasn’t upbeat everywhere in Russia. Some commentators pointed to the lack of visible progress as a sign that the summit changed little. A pro-war blogger warned that if Russia resumes strikes in Ukraine, Trump could back off and restart sanctions, ending the talks.

The uncertainty remains: Will Russia stay in the fight, or will diplomacy finally bring peace?
